Product Description
Detailed information about the product features and specifications
Buffer tank SG(B) Galmet is a specialized heat and cooling storage solution, developed with the highest efficiency of modern heating installations in mind, especially those based on heat pumps. The key element of this solution is the maximally enlarged spiral coil. The largest that could be adapted to a tank of a given capacity. This design enables efficient heat and cooling transfer even at very low temperature differences – which is essential for maintaining high COP coefficient and stable heat pump operation.
The coil with a surface area from 2 to up to 12 m² (depending on the model) ensures rapid tank charging and efficient system operation even with large heat and cooling demands or variable requirements. For comparison, the coil in a standard buffer has a surface area of only 1.4 to 3.5 m².
Additionally, the large water capacity of the heat pump buffer dampens temperature fluctuations in the installation, reduces the frequency of heat source switching and protects the compressor in the heat pump from the adverse phenomenon of cycling.
Construction and functionality
The buffer tank is made of certified black steel, thanks to which it can work with both boiler water and glycol solutions. The spiral coil (spiral heat exchanger) made of black steel is automatically welded and placed in the lower part of the tank. This ensures optimal circulation and even temperature distribution. Depending on the tank capacity, the liquid capacity of the coil ranges from 14 to 101 liters.
All connection nozzles (internally threaded 6/4") and temperature sensor sleeves (1/2") are located on one side of the tank, which significantly facilitates installation. This design also saves space in the boiler room and enables convenient system expansion. Temperature sensor sleeves are located in the lower, middle and upper parts of the buffer, allowing accurate monitoring of temperature distribution in the tank.
Models from 800 liters and above are additionally equipped with an inspection opening, which facilitates cleaning and technical inspections. An electric heating kit can also be installed in its place. An additional coil enables connection of another heat source.
Each SG(B) buffer - heat storage - has nozzles for mounting an electric heating kit with a power from 2 to 24 kW – depending on the tank size.
The buffer tank for heat pumps can also function as a hydraulic separator in extended multi-circuit installations.
Insulation and aesthetics
Long heat or cooling storage and limitation of their losses is ensured by efficient thermal insulation. The applied solutions are:
- for models 200–500: permanent polyurethane foam insulation + aesthetic leatherette casing,
- for models 800–1000: removable insulation + aesthetic leatherette casing.
Compatibility and application
The SG(B) tank was created to work with a wide range of modern heating and cooling devices, including:
- air-source and ground-source heat pumps Galmet (Airmax³, Airmax², Prima, Maxima),
- pellet, gas, electric, pellet or coal boilers – as peak sources,
- solar collectors – flat and vacuum,
- chilled water cooling systems – only tanks 200 – 500 with polyurethane insulation
- weather controllers and Sinum installation management systems,
- DHW storage tanks, GE electric heating kits.
Summary
Buffer tank SG(B) is a solution created for heat pumps that require a large heat exchange surface and stable operating conditions. The spiral heat exchanger with record surface area, thoughtful tank construction and compatibility with a wide range of energy sources and receivers make SG(B) a natural choice for professional installers and designers. This is technology for those who do not compromise on efficiency, durability and safety of the entire installation.
Custom project buffer
We also manufacture SG(B) tanks to order with a non-standard number of connections, nozzle arrangement, with additional coils or service flanges.
